LESSON 1:

Course Learning Objectives:

  • To be able to appreciate how human reality is created and appreciate that unconscious understanding exists within these realities

  • To be able to identify when a reality is healthy and accurate or unhealthy and distorted

  • To recognise that healthy realities do contain belief in any form

  • To appreciate that to restore healthy understanding, the belief in an unhealthy reality has to be completely undermined

Understanding Human Reality - The Brain Creates a Thought-made Reality of the World

The brain creates its own version of reality every second that you are alive. This is made of thought and is all you ever experience.

Your brain works like a VR helmet. VR helmets generate illusory environments for us to experience out of neutral, coloured light that constantly changes formation. The environment never really exists, it's just an illusion made of light.

Similarly, the brain generates its own version of reality, it makes its own version of the world around you out of thought. The information that the senses gather is processed by the brain and an individual thought-based copy is created for you. This thought-made copy of the environment that your brain has made is the world that you experience all day long.

So, the brain of every animal on the planet creates a sense of reality for an organism so that it can experience the world and survive in it.It is very easy to believe that we experience the world directly, however this isn't possible. The world doesn't push any experiences into our body - our brain makes 100% of everything that we experience, every second that we are alive. This is what human reality is - a thought-made world that is simply an illusion created by our brain.

All animals need to be able to know what the environment is like and assess the level of threat in that environment. They therefore also create an understanding of the world alongside making a thought-based version of the physical environment. Each animal creates this differently because their brains are individual and designed differently. Thought constantly changes formation, but never creates anything that is actually real - so, human reality is a thought-experience that never really exists. However, this doesn't mean that thought isn't incredibly helpful.

A psychologist once told me that if I looked at what I was experiencing in life and I couldn't hold it or place it in a bucket, then it was something that was being created by thinking and never really existed.  We can’t hold a VR experience or a thought-made human experience - neither can be placed in a bucket. This really helped because I started to notice that all the things that made me feel anxious in life were not real threats, they were imagined, thought-based threats. I started to notice that my understanding of life was full of imagined threats that never existed in the physical world. These invisible beliefs were just incorrect, harmful thoughts. Once I noticed the mistake that I had made, I lost the belief in these threats and this greatly increased my sense of wellbeing in day-to-day life.

The essential point to take away here is that we experience a copied, thought-made environment that our individual brain has made. We are not experiencing the world directly. When this is realised, we stop believing that thinking is solid, fixed, true and real. This stops thinking from harming us as thought has absolutely no ability to cause harm if it doesn't look true or real.
